Switch to QuickBooks 2008 in online banking

10/15/2009

QuickBooks online banking lets you match transactions using a side-by-side view (Side-by-side mode) or a more classic register view (Register Mode).

In Register Mode, you match transactions in a window that looks identical to the window for matching transactions in QuickBooks 2008.

Use the Checking category in the Preferences window to switch between Register Mode (from QuickBooks 2008) and Side-by-side Mode (from QuickBooks 2009).
IMPORTANT:  Renaming rules created in Side-by-side Mode are not available in Register Mode, and aliases created in Register Mode are not available in Side-by-side Mode.

  1. Ensure your QuickBooks version is updated to the latest release.
  2. Ensure you are in single-user mode.
  3. Choose Edit > Preferences.
  4. Click the Checking category on the left and click the Company Preferences tab.
  5. In the Online Banking section, select the mode you want to use.
    • Side-by-Side Mode  (introduced in QuickBooks 2009; uses renaming rules)
    • Register Mode (from QuickBooks 2008 and earlier; uses aliases)
  6. Click OK.
You can switch between the two modes as often as needed.
